If you are in the UK right now, you will already know that it's bloody freezing! Today it is far too cold to consider even leaving the house (even though normally going a whole day without stepping outside makes me get a bit grumpy), so I am sitting here all huddled up in what I like to call my all-in-one-feety-jamas (aka a very unflattering full-length onesie with penguins for feet). But don't worry, I am not going to treat you to that image - instead I thought I'd show you pics of yesterday's outfit instead.
We popped out for our weekly cheat meal (since my Love and I try to eat healthily during the week - no wheat, no sugar, nothing deep-fried - we usually go out for something tasty at the weekend), to the always-delicious Mien Tay on Lavender Hill in Clapham. It is one of our regular places to eat, and if you like Vietnamese food (and even if you don't) I would highly recommend it. Anyway, we weren't going far, but I needed an outfit that could keep me somewhat warm, and combat the evil wind chill factor.
Layers are definitely the way forward when it's chilly, so I went for (deep breath!) 100 denier tights, long socks, two dresses, a long-sleeve Uniqlo heat-tech top (obsessed with heat-tech, it's pretty much the best thing ever), a jumper, a snood, gloves, a leather jacket, and a cape. (And underwear, obviously). And I was almost warm!
As for footwear - I know that wearing high-heeled (these ones are nearly 4 inches) boots might be a bit counter-intuitive in freezing weather, but I have come to realise that grip is more important than flatness in these situations - these lace-up boots have really solid rubber grip soles, while my beloved (and pretty bust-up) Carvela biker boots have almost entirely flat, grip-free soles which are just begging for me to slip up on my ass, and look a total fool.
And accessories? Well, I just went for the brightest thing I could find - sometimes a bit of neon yellow is the only thing that will do.

ReplyDeleteI love it! I just really wish I'd sprayed the leather when I first bought it, because now it's getting a bit grubby... x

Thank you so much! My boyfriend hates it and thinks I should have normal coloured hair :)
DeleteI love that bag - it's very Alexander Wang. Plus I am totally taking your restaurant recommendation - I'll be in London in February and it's always good to have somewhere in mind to go - otherwise even with online reviews it can be a bit hit-or-miss. I usually get a hotel in Fitzrovia, and I go to the Newman Arms for a pie, and a pudding. It's heavy food, approximately the density of uranium, but ohhhh, so good!
